A meerkat pokes its head out the ground, just to quickly look around and put it back in. Similarly, the UGG boots, the meerkat of shoes, are poking their heads out into popularity.

The UGG boots have been consistently coming in and out of style for years now. They make comebacks to match the current style. They’ve gone from high-rise to low-rise, black to brown, boots to slippers, but they somehow always seem to eventually vanish from the trending charts. 

In the early 2000s, every girl seemed to have a pair of UGGs. Every morning, they would throw on a pair of high rise UGG boots and a Juicy Couture sweatsuit. But the trend died out as quickly as a frightened meerkat pops back into his hole.

Now, the UGGs are back. The once high-rise boots have been swapped out for a mini sized boot or a slipper, and the sweatsuits have been swapped out for a pair of Lululemon leggings. If you walk around a public high school, you will spot at least 20 pairs of UGGs walking past you in the hall.

Ever since the trend reemerged in Hollywood, it-girls from Kendall Jenner to Blake Lively have been spotted in the fuzzy footwear, making the trend gain even more traction. 

People are finding thousands of ways to style the shoe, whether it’s to dress up or dress down. That’s right—people love their UGGs so much they are finding ways to wear them to their office jobs. 

The UGG boot is most popular with the “preppy” teenage girls. The modern idea for the term preppy is derived from TikTok, and it essentially means a girl who is basic. Preppy girls typically wear Lululemon and carry the infamous Stanley, and most recently they have taken the UGG trend by storm.

Just like every trend, the brand has its fair share of haters who think the boot is UGG-ly, but these haters are drowned out by the vast amount of UGG lovers. 

As of right now people are following the trend and buying their shoes left and right—much like what happened in the early 2000s. 

But the trend eventually simmered out, and the pressing question is—are they going to be boot-ed off the popularity charts once again?

It’s safe to say that UGG sales will most likely continue to grow for a while. So, if you have a spare $150 stored in your piggy bank, jump on this comfortable, fashionable trend before the meerkat effect takes hold and the boots recede hopelessly back into their unfashionable hole.
